Memoria Descriptiva
El Lowry contiene facilidades tanto para artes visuales como escénicas.
Está diseñado para ser un punto de referencia y enfoque
urbano, con una identidad distintiva y dinámica. Su mezcla de actividades

la comunidad, y generará un espíritu de participación.
Sobre todo, será un emocionante y estimulante lugar para la educación
y la recreación.
El Lowry está
situado en el extremo occidental de Pier 8, bordeado por los canales y
muelles de Manchester, enfrentando una nueva Plaza pública triangular.
La Plaza será un lugar protegido y vivas para la actividad comunitaria,
con desarrollo comercial cercando los lados restantes de la Plaza.
El centro contiene
un teatro lírico de 1730 asientos, y un teatro adaptable de 450
asientos, ubicados "espalda con espalda" para formar la espina
central del edificio, flanqueada por ambos lados por las galerías
Lowry. Las galerías exhibirán muestras variadas y la colección
de pinturas de L.S. Lowry con el Lowry Study Centre, acomodadas en montaje
de espacios de forma vertical dentro de la torre. La galería de
trabajos artísticos comprende un gran volumen linear y escalonado,
con series de formas geométricas para ubicar displays interactivos
y audiovisuales.
Un aire de teatralidad,
festividad, y anticipación se generará con el movimiento
hacia adentro y a través del Centro, y la disposición animará
a los visitantes a explorar y disfrutar las variadas facilidades, de día
y de noche.
El Lowry comprende un montaje de formas y espacios único, que expresa
el contenido y significancia del edificio, desde símbolo cultural
y elemento focal de la ciudad hasta lugar íntimo de experiencia
personal. El diseño es una fusión entre la tradición
monumental de los edificios públicos, y el carácter informal
de los lugares de cultura y entretenimiento contemporáneos.

ARCHITECTURAL
DESCRIPTION
The Lowry contains
facilities for both the visual and performing arts. It is designed to
be a landmark building and urban focus with a distinct and dynamic identity.
Its mix of activities will increase opportunities for social interaction
within the community and generate a spirit of participation. Above all,
it will be an exciting and stimulating venue for education and recreation.
The Lowry is situated at the western end of Pier 8, bordered by the Manchester
ship canal and docks, facing a new triangular public Plaza. The Plaza
will be a sheltered and lively venue for community activity with commercial
development enclosing the remaining sides of the Plaza.
The Centre contains a 1730 seat Lyric Theatre, and 450 seat Adaptable
Theatre arranged back to back to form the central spine of the building,
flanked on either side by the Lowry Galleries and Artworks. The galleries
will display changing exhibitions and the City of Salford's collection
of L.S. Lowry paintings with the Lowry Study Centre accommodated in a
dramatic vertical assembly of spaces within the tower. The Artworks gallery
comprises a large stepped linear volume containing a series of geometric
forms to accommodate audio-visual and interactive displays.
An air of theatricality, festivity and anticipation will be generated
by movement into and through the Centre and the layout will encourage
visitors to explore and enjoy the variety of facilities housed within,
throughout the day and evening.
The Lowry comprises a unique assembly of forms and spaces which express
the building's content and significance ranging from cultural symbol and
focal element of the city fabric to an intimate place of personal experience.
The design is a fusion between the monumental tradition of public buildings
and the more informal character of today's places of culture and entertainment.
